3 Week Course (6 hours total), covers everything the Intro to Calligraphy covers in the first week, but then expands the second and third weeks to include connecting letters, working with combinations of upper case and lower case, making short words and phrases, how to address envelopes and design greeting cards, place cards and working with full sentences and layout of a short quotation or poem. All tools and materials provided! Beginners encouraged!
A great way to learn the fine art of fancy calligraphy in the style used by many modern calligraphers today. This class covers the use of the pointed pens with black ink and focuses on individual letters only starting with lower case and finishing with upper case. A great first class to see if you're interesting in continuing to keep up the fine art of calligraphy. All supplies and tools provided - PLUS each student will receive a Calligraphy Starter Kit which includes pen holder, pen nib, starter supply of ink and instructional booklet with alphabet guides!
I am teaching at Letters of Joy Conference - a 1-1/2 day conference held this year at Shoreline Community College, May 5th and May 6th. Even if you don't take any classes on May 6th, I highly recommend coming to the lecture and shopping the vendor market (which is open both days). The lecture on Friday night is only $5 the speaker is Louis Lemoine. The doors open at 5:30 pm, Keynote/Lecture begins at 7 pm, with reception to follow, there is also a silent auction and exhibit.

Learn how to create simple but magical paintings using gesso and acrylics on paper. Create a base with white, tinted or black gesso. Use drybrush washes, buffing, inscribing and scraping techniques to create color and texture variations. Included are great tips on how to prep artwork to take your pointed pen, brush or edged pen lettering to the next level. Students should bring: 1" flat brush, two sheets 9" x 12" hot press watercolor paper (Arches Aquarelle, Fabriano Artistico or Bristol Board), 2-3 colors of acrylic paint, water container and paper towels. Optional: your favorite pen or brush and black/white inks. (FW white acrylic or Golden High Flow carbon black recommended.). $5 instructor fee (additional acrylics provided, black gesso, white gesso for each student).

About the Artist
Caitlin Dundon is a painter, calligrapher, calligraphy teacher and author. The artwork she has created for more than 20 years often features her elegant handwritten script or handmade typography. Her art has appeared in galleries, magazines, newspapers, and television and is currently being licensed for use in posters, journals, greeting cards, fabric and other items. Her work has been spotted at Target, WalMart US, WalMart Canada, HomeGoods, Fred Meyer and Kohl's.
Her art can be found in the collections of: Oprah Winfrey, Elton John, Sheryl Crow, Dale Chihuly, Patti LuPone, Bill & Melinda Gates, Howard Schultz, His Royal Highness, Andrew the Duke of York, and President Paul Kagame of Rwanda.
Dundon is also a published children’s picture book author. She currently resides in Seattle with her husband, writer and editor Randy Woods.
